The About Page Isn’t Just Somewhere to Put Your Company History

“Established in 2008, we are a family-owned business committed to delivering quality service.”

That might all be true. But by the end of the sentence, a visitor still hasn’t learnt much about the people they might be trusting with their home, money or business.

Your About page is a chance to make that introduction properly.

Start with who you help

A little context helps people understand whether they’re in the right place.

What kind of customers do you work with? What do they usually need help with? Where do you operate?

For example:

“We help West Auckland homeowners repair and update timber joinery, from a sticking window to a replacement front door.”

That tells someone more than a broad statement about offering solutions.

You can then introduce the people behind the work.

Show who customers will deal with

Will they speak directly with the owner? Will the same person quote and complete the job? Is there a small team looking after enquiries?

Explain how it works.

Include names, roles and current photos where appropriate. A natural photo of your team at work can give the page more personality than another stock image of a meeting.

You don’t need everyone’s full CV. Focus on the experience and responsibilities that matter to your customers.

Explain why you work the way you do

Your story becomes more useful when it connects to the customer experience.

Perhaps you started the business because you wanted to offer smaller jobs that larger firms weren’t taking on.

Perhaps years in the industry taught you how frustrating poor communication can be, so you built a clear update process into your service.

Those details help explain your approach.

You don’t need a dramatic origin story. An honest account of what matters to you is enough.

Back up the promises

If your page says you’re experienced, explain the relevant experience.

If it says you’re approachable, write in a way that feels approachable.

If it says you care about the details, show an example of that care elsewhere on the site.

Then give visitors a clear next step, such as exploring your services, viewing recent work or getting in touch.

At Brightside Marketing, we help businesses introduce themselves in a way that feels natural and gives customers useful information. If your About page could belong to almost anyone, it might be time for a refresh.
